Warriors nip tourney host

Mount Si graduate Mick Jacobsen threw down a dunk after receiving a lob from teammate Nick Plotts, putting Western ahead to stay with 1:20 remaining in a 79-76 victory over Pacific Lutheran. The Warriors shot 52 percent (28-54) from the field. Pacific Lutheran (2-1) connected on 44 percent (27-61) in a game that was close throughout.

Through the first 10 games of the season, Western Baptist is leading the Cascade Conference in field goal percentage. The Warriors are shooting nearly 56 percent from the field as a team. The 1985-86 WBC squad posted the best percentage in history, firing at a .542 clip for the season. Mick Jacobsen and Drew Langstraat top the league from the floor shooting a blistering .692 and .663 respectively. Nine players on the roster are shooting 50 percent or better.

The season’s first NAIA Division II Top-25 polling was to be announced after the Record’s press time on Tuesday. Coming off a 28-9 record a year ago, Western Baptist was No. 22 in the preseason poll.
