Sounders win home opener

The Seattle Select Women’s team continued its unbeaten streak as

forward Tami Bennett scored a natural hat trick and led the team to a 4-0 win

over the Vancouver Lady Sixers in a provisional W-League game played

Saturday afternoon at Seattle Memorial Stadium.

More than 2,100 people came to witness the Select’s first-ever

home game. The fans watched as Seattle dominated, outshooting

Vancouver 16-2 and not allowing the Lady Sixers a good scoring chance.

The Select had its first goal in the fourth minute when

midfielder Theresa Wagner passed the ball to Bennett, who received it 5 yards

out and scored with a shot to the right side of the goal. Twelve minutes later,

the pair connected again to score the second goal of the afternoon

when Wagner received the ball on the 30-yard line and dribbled all the way

to the goal line. She passed the ball to Bennett, who was 5 yards out,

and Bennett sent the ball straight into the back of the net.

Bennett scored her third goal in the 38th minute with a pass from

defender Dana Kimble in the right corner. Bennett pounded the ball into the

net from 5 yards out.

The Select scored its final goal of the afternoon in the 87th minute

with a shot by forward Erin Otagaki with Karen Hardy assisting. Hardy

passed the ball near the goal line to the left of the goal. Otagaki received it about

10 yards from the right side of the goal.

The team is undefeated and holds a 5-0-2 record. The Lady Sixers

are the only team to score a goal against Seattle.

“This game was a repeat of the game last week in Vancouver

where we dominated the game,” said Coach Chance Fry. “But this time, we

finished our scoring chances. The team played great tonight. What can you

say about Tami Bennett? She finished all of her chances and put the game

out of reach before halftime.”

Mount Si’s Lindsey Jorgensen did the majority of the goal-keeping

duties to assist in the shutout.
