Girl’s basketball clinic scheduled

The Basketball School of Instruction is now accepting enrollment in

the Spring 2000 clinic, beginning Mar. 5 at Juanita High School. All girls

in grades 5 through 11 are invited to enroll. The clinic will be limited to

the first 50 girls to register and is designed to build basketball skills and

Public invited to comment on hunting

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife announced

that hunters and other interested persons will have several opportunities to

comment on proposed hunting season alternatives for 2000 through 2002

at public meetings.

While the proposals have not been sharply defined because harvest

results of the 1999 seasons have not been compiled and spring population

surveys must be conducted, the proposals are based on the following

general principles: minimize changes to early general hunting season; ask the

archery, muzzleloader and modern firearm hunting groups to share

changes; and include group size and hunting success rates when asking groups

to share season changes. WDFW will also ask hunters to comment on

proposals to require them to report the results of their hunts each

year, whether or not they were successful.

Public meetings on the proposals will be held through January

from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at seven locations in the state, including:

• Jan. 24 _ Fife, Best Western Executive Inne; and

• Jan. 25 _ Everett, Snohomish County PUD, 2320 California Street.

Hunters are also invited to comment on the proposals via the

Internet at www.wa.gov/wdfw.

WDFW will use the comments received to develop

recommendations for commission consideration when

it meets April 7 and 8 in Yakima.

Public boating course offered

You and your family and friends are cordially invited to attend

the United States Power Squadrons’ (USPS) Boating Course, which

provides essential information for every type of boater.

Learn about boat handling and seamanship, needed equipment, rules

of the road, lines and knots, charts and aids to navigation, engine

troubleshooting, boat trailering and much, much more.

Classes are scheduled for Bellevue High School on Tuesday, Feb. 1,

and Thursday, Feb. 3, at Rose Hill Junior High in Kirkland. Start time for
