The Mount Si High School softball team rolled into Interlake Tuesday, April 8, to best the Saints.

Interlake, who had been projected to finish near the bottom of the Kingco this season, has made some inroads into a contending postseason position in league with a couple of key upsets, including one over Skyline at the beginning of the season.

But the Wildcat bats silenced the Interlake charge, and in doing so, may have sent a huge message.

Freshman pitcher Alex Johnson picked up her first varsity win in high school ball, and went 2-4 with a pair of runs, as Mount Si rolled to a big 13-2 five-inning victory.

The game was called due to the mercy rule. It is the second mercy-rule victory for the Wildcats this season.

Freshman Danielle Massengill went 2-4 as well with a double and a pair of runs herself.

“A lot of the girls that we’ve been wanting to step up, stepped up today,” said Mount Si assistant coach Kevin Sweepe. “Some of the seniors stepped up and got their bats working. The freshmen came in huge with Alex Johnson pitching, and we had Danielle Massengill playing outfield for us. It all just came together.”

The Wildcats were looking to carry this effort into a game last Thursday, April 10, against the Issaquah Eagles. Rain postponed the contest, which was slated to be made up sometime this week.

The Wildcats will have their crack at a couple of lower-tier teams this week, with games Wednesday, April 16 at home versus Mercer Island and Friday, April 18 at Bellevue. Along with the regular game at Bellevue, the ‘Cats are set to complete the suspended game from earlier this season at Mount Si, which they were leading at the point of that suspension 5-0.

Should the Wildcats take care of business in all of these games, they will be right on the road to playoffs.
