Losing only two key players to graduation and with a top freshman pitcher joining the squad, the Mount Si girls’ varsity softball team is looking to improve on last year’s 5-13 record.

Returning this year for the Wildcats is a group of talent led by all-league first team designated hitter senior Alison Moorehead. Also returning are seniors Tabitha Albertson (first team All-Kingco left fielder) and catcher Rachel McNaul (a first baseman last season and All-Kingco honorable mention winner). Sophomores Kayla Jayne and Amy Trenkamp lead a talented crop of underclassmen. As honorable mention infielders last year as freshmen, coach Larry White said that he is “looking for huge things from both of those girls.”

The team also garnered the All-Kingco sportsmanship award in 2002.

Moorehead was the team’s top pitcher last year but the emergence of top freshman pitching newcomer Kandis Clesson, who White thinks will be the team’s ace on the mound this year, likely has displaced Moorehead from that role.

“She comes from an ASA [Amercian Softball Association] team that she’s had a lot of success with,” said White.

Another freshman that may see playing time this season is Katie Morgan.
