Snoqualmie middle school girls complete hat trick against Mercer Island track

All three Snoqualmie Middle School girls track teams were victorious last Thursday, May 22, against the Mercer Island Gators.

In the eighth grade meet, it was the strong showing in the field events that made the difference. Megan McCulley took a first in the shot, followed by Kailey Vanslyke with a second. Sophie Rockow placed first in the long jump followed by Haley Perrine with second and Lexi Swanson with a third. Swanson also took first in the high jump, followed by teammate Katy Crowley with second. In the running events, Annalise Sansburn picked up the solo first place finish in the 200 meter race in a new personal record of 29.9 seconds. Teammate Landon Edwards placed second in the hurdles, followed by teammate Swanson in third. The mile run saw Katie Jensen finish second, and Edwards picked up the third. Rockow took second in the 100 meter dash, as did Angela Hontas with a second in the 800 meter race. The girls 800 meter relay team of Past, Hontas, Crowley and Sansburn also picked up a first for the Lady Eagles.

The seventh-grade meet also saw the Lady Eagles sweep all but one place in the field events. Taking firsts were Kassandra Teran in the shot and discus, Sierra Morin in the long jump and Molly McElroy in the high jump. Seconds came from Alex Pffifner in the high jump and Delaney Vargas in both the shot and discus. Rounding out third places were Megan McCallum in the long jump and Samantha Burgess in shot and discus. In the running events Morin took the hurdles and McCallum the 800 meter race. Acker picked up a second in the hurdles. Placing third were McElroy in the 100, Cheyenne Dixon in the 400, and Gina Heidel in the 200. The medley relay team of Kayla Schumacher, Courtney Wilhelm, Dixon and Acker took first, as did the 800 meter team of Morin, Heidel, McCallum and McElroy.

The sixth grade girls captured firsts in 10 of the 13 events. Individual firsts went to double winner Savannah Morrison in the 800 and 1,600 meter races. In the 800, she posted a new school record time for sixth grade of 2:44.6. Other firsts came from Celine Fowler in the hurdles, Robyn Langevin in the 400 meter race, Terra Asper in the discus, Chelsea Henak in the long jump and Sammi Hontas in the high jump. Seconds were brought in by Bailey Scott in the hurdles, Madison Murphy in the 100 meter race, Henak in the 400, Hontas in the 200, Leanne Schneider in the discus, Dominique Thompson in the shot, Velvet Weber in the long jump and Asper in the high jump. Thirds were posted by Scott in the 100 meter race, Sydney Leonard in the 200, Thompson in the discus, Asper in the shot and Henak in the high jump. The medley relay of Fowler, Weber, Autumn Pesce, and Lydia Petroske placed first, as did the 400 meter relay squad of Fowler, Leonard, Pesce and Morrison. And the final relay of the afternoon, the 800 meter relay, also saw Langevin, Pesce, Scott and Hontas place first.
