Cedarcrest and the Red Wolves’ wrestling team hosted Skyline
last week and walked away with their first team victory in over a year by
defeating the Spartans 56 – 18. The win solidified the confidence of a
young team that had, in the past, borne the brunt of many ego-bruising matches.
In the 103-pound class, freshman Aaron Pedeferri wasted no time
dominating his opponent, pinning him in 44 seconds. Teammate Darrin
DeBoer, also a freshman, defeated Ricky Chun, 9-0.
In the 119-pound class, senior Eric Pedeferri easily pinned the
Spartans’ Justin Eballr at the 1:09 mark of the first round. Skyline’s Kevin
Burton defeated Alan Shults by pin 43 seconds into the match in the
125-pound class while fellow Spartan S. Kevern defeated Cedarcrest’s
Andrew Clausen, 11-4.
But the Red Wolves jumped right back in it in the 135-pound match
as veteran Kris Cautrell pinned Van Vu at the 4:54 mark of the third
round. Then, Adam Speir pinned Skyline’s Jamie Birell at the 1:29 mark of
the first round. But the pin fest wasn’t over as Tony Stadman, Dan Amador
and Rob Westerman all recorded pins over their Skyline opponents. In
the171-pound class, Chris Nasell continued racking up points for the Red
Wolves as he defeated Bryan Kelly, 18-10. In the 189-pound class, Skyline’s
Jake Goetz defeated James Minchew, 10-8.
Rounding out the 215- and 275-pound classes, Cole Birk of
Cedarcrest won by forfeit, and Skyline’s Ted Pellegrini pinned Ben Schlechty in
48 seconds.
