The Cedarcrest Red Wolves’ wrestling team notched one loss and
one win last week, giving them five team wins for the season. Their first
meet last week was against Mercer Island; they lost 27 _ 50. Then they
traveled to Bellevue to take on the Wolverines, adding another team win, 43-34.
In the 103-pound class, Aaron Pedeferri pinned his opponent in
the first round. Darren DeBoer found himself on the underside of a pin in
the second round. Veteran Eric Pedeferri pinned his MI opponent in the
first round.
In the 125-pound class, Alan Shults pinned his Islander
opponent in the second round. Andrew Claussen won by decision while teammate
Kris Cautrell pinned his opponent in the third round. Adam Speir lost by
decision to his Islander opponent, 7-15, as did Tony Stedman 2-13. The
Red Wolves’ Dan Amador was pinned in the second round and Rob
Westerman was handed a similar fate in the first round.
James Minchew was also pinned by his opponent in the first round
as was Chris Ansell.
Cole Birk in the 215-pound class and Ben Schlecht in the
275-pound class faced similar fates, both getting pinned by the Islander opponents.
In their meet with Bellevue the Red Wolves turned the table.
Pedeferri opened at 103-pounds with a forfeit. Teammate DeBoer followed suit in
the 112-pound class pinning Bellevue’s Terry Chen at the 1:04 mark of the
first round.
The elder Pedeferri pinned the Wolverine’s Justin Johnston at the
49 second mark of the first round. In the 125-pound class, Bellevue’s
Marc Larson handed Shults a pin at the 1:20 mark. But teammate Claussen
turned the tide, winning by a 6-4 decision over Bellevue’s Nick Legue. In
the 135 pound class, the Red Wolves’ Logan Kingston was pinned
by Bellevue’s Ken Stansbury at the 5:46 mark of the third round. Veteran
Cautrell pinned Bellevue’s Chris Campbell at the 3:57 mark of the
second round but teammate Speir lost by decision to the Wolverines’
Jeremy McCormick 17-4.
In the 152-pound class, Amador won by decision over Nate Keech
12-4 as did Westermann in the 160-pound class over Ed Evanson, 15-8.
Cedarcrest’s Minchew came up on the short end of a pin by
Bellevue’s Les Keller as did teammate Ansell.
Birk pinned Bellevue’s Tyler Switzer at the 3:16 mark of the
second round but teammate Schlecht found himself pined by
Bellevue’s Ramsey Warren 25 seconds into the first round.
This week the Red Wolves take on Liberty then host Mount Si on
Thursday.
