It very nearly could have been Mount Si’s second win of the week, but Liberty managed to pull ahead, and stay there, winning 52-44 at Mount Si on Friday, Dec. 21.

It was a good night, though, for several Mount Si players. Junior post Sally Nelson had eight points, senior Katy Lindor had seven, and senior Grace Currie had three. Sophomore shooting phenom Elizabeth Prewitt, playing with a cold, managed five points, a bit below her recent average. She logged 19 two days prior in Mount Si’s win over Interlake on Dec. 19. Lindor had 14 points in that game.

Kailyn Campbell, a senior at Cedarcrest High School, recently signed a letter of intent to play fastpitch softball for the Central Washington University Wildcats, under head coach Mallory Holtman. Campbell also received a scholarship to attend the school.

Athletics have been a constant in Campbell’s life, beginning with T-ball at a young age. She started playing select softball at age 9, and played volleyball and basketball for Cedarcrest, softball is where she has found her personal success. The first-basewoman’s defensive skills have been described as fluid and natural, with her power hitting abilities and offensive prowess ready to move to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

Cascade Football Club’s G02 age 10-and-younger girls soccer team took first place this fall in the U-10 Puget Sound Premier League. Coaches have recognized the Valley team for their hard work.

Snoqualmie Middle School’s boys junior varsity soccer team finished 7-0-1 in their first season.

Outstanding defense by the JV Eagles allowed seven goals the entire season.Their only tie was with Tolt. Goalies Jack Hamerly and Skyler Woolf made many great saves during the season. Hamerly also displayed strong leadership skills from the goalie position. Hamerly also saw time at midfield and showed strong defensive skills.

Everybody had been waiting for this moment, and the home crowd roared when Tyler McCreadie got air in the fourth quarter of Mount Si’s home win against Interlake.

Guard Jack Nelson was rushing to the basket in a classic fake-out, and McCreadie, on post, was in the corner, “ready to dive in if a guy makes it to the paint.”

With all the defenders rushing on Nelson, the junior fired to his six-foot-eight classmate.

“He had this beautiful pass, behind his head,” said McCreadie. “It’s wide open. It’s dunk or nothing.”

McCreadie’s slam was one highlight of a big night for the Wildcats, who sat out two important starters but still handled things, winning 79-50 on Tuesday, Dec. 18.

The Snoqualmie Valley Youth Soccer Association’s FC North Bend GU14 Smothers R1 Recreation team, also known as Sweet and Sour, or SAS, won the WSYSA District II league title on Saturday, Nov. 10, with a 4-0 win over the K ‘98 Stars. This is the fourth consecutive year that SAS has dominated the league and won the title.

The North Bend team went 9-1 on the season, scoring 29 goals against opponents and allowing only 7.

To do this job, you need not only the physical strength and ability to get someone out of danger, you need the creativity to think up the various ways people get themselves into trouble all the time.

Members of the Eastside Fire & Rescue technical rescue teams spent a week recently honing all of these skills, at Tolt MacDonald Park in Carnation. Working in shifts, all 33 team members spent a day learning the ropes of the team’s new rescue raft, a two-man inflatable designed to allow rescuers to float (on water) or slide (on ice or snow) right up to a victim, and an afternoon practicing climbing skills at Carnation’s Tolt MacDonald Park.

Pauline Kaczmarek came all the way from France to study at Mount Si High School this year. She’s found a new family in the ranks of the Mount Si gymnastics team, where the senior has been making a name for herself on a squad that’s already packing serious talent.

Kaczmarek was among team members who broke into the nines last Thursday, Dec. 13, in a home meet with Sammamish that also featured competition by Bellevue and Newport. Increasingly deep, Mount Si had the highest team score despite some absences, which included Jenn Rogers, the up-and-coming sophomore who was singing in a school concert a few doors down.

No matter, as the Wildcats had the talent to dominate. While Sammamish’s Mykaela Davis had the top all-around score, 34.9—the athletic Davis was cheered on by everyone, including the Wildcats—Mount Si athletes filled out much of the top ranks in all four events.

For a second, Miranda Gillespie is flying through the air. She holds her breath. Her mind clears. Then she’s down, cradled in the arms of her teammates.

Miranda is a flyer, one of the Mount Si cheerleaders who perform aerial stunts for spirit routines and competitions.

This breathtaking moment is a lot of fun for her, and the senior is confident that she’ll come down just fine.

“I trust the people that I’m flying with,” she says. On the Wildcat squad, she adds, the whole team’s got everyone’s back.

Tim Corrie wasn’t expecting his Interlake opponent to take a shot right at the whistle. He reacted, fast all the same.
The 182-pounder, Jonathan Palagashvili, went for Corrie’s legs. Tim went for the headlock, and made his pin in a minute-55. It was his third in a season that’s included two decisions and four occasions when he was unanswered on the mat.
“I want to keep my undefeated streak,” the senior says.
