As expected, two of them were Ryan Makela and Ryan Ransavage. Makela won the 140-pound weight class with a win over Bainbridge’s Eli Narte, while Ransavage won the 285-pound division with a win over O’Dea’s J.P. Bruckner.

Results were a little more mixed for the other three competitors in the event representing the Wildcats. Cody Botten finished fourth in the 112-pound class, falling to Blanchet’s Jeff Payo in his final match. Ben Larson, in the 130- pound class, ended up fifth, winning that spot by beating Ingraham’s Peter Huynh. Joe Milks, in the 160-pound class, finished sixth in his weight division, falling to O’Dea’s Geoff Carlin to close out his season.

Botten qualified for state, while Larson and Milks did not. Mount Si as a team scored 70 points, finishing eighth overall among all teams entered.

Botten, Ransavage and Makela will compete at Mat Classic XX at the Tacoma Dome. Botten will open his first Mat Classic with a bout against Sunnyside’s Steven Romero at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 20. Makela will start his expected title run with a match against Jacob Virtue from Union at Vancouver, shortly before noon. Ransavage starts his run for the top with a contest against Everett’s Levi Cannon at 1:30 p.m..

Matches will run all day Friday, continuing Saturday. Fans who go to Mat Classic should know that Mount Si’s gymnastics team will be competing next door at the exhibition hall on Friday night.
