Mount Si High School varsity boys soccer fell to visiting Eastlake in a rain-drenched home battle Wednesday, March 16.

The Wolves dominated, 4-1, scoring three in the first half.

Sophomore Erik Stai, in his first year on varsity, scored the Wildcats’ lone goal with 3:54 left in the second half off a pass from senior co-captain Eric Baumgardner.

“Eric played a good ball for an assist, and I hit the back of the net, like I should,” Stai said.

Conditions were nasty, but Stai was “super excited to be out here, getting in some playing time.”

As for the opponent, Stai said the Wolves were a good team, but “we should have played better.”

Head coach Darren Brown agreed.

While “Stai gave us good energy” and Baumgardner had good touch on the ball, Brown said overall, the ‘Cats were flat and overconfident on the night.

“We’re a better standard than that,” Brown said.

Brown expects Mount Si to come out stronger Friday, when they face Bellevue at home, and told the team as much in an after-game talk in the stands.

“We’ve got to play a lot better than that,” he said. “I think they will.”

On Saturday, March 12, the Wildcats came away with a 1-1 tie with Issaquah High School.

Mount Si faces the Bellevue Wolverines at home Friday, March 18. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
