SNOQUALMIE – The girls” soccer team at Mount Si has a challenging season ahead of it.

The conference divisions have been redrawn, more than half of the team is new to varsity and it has already suffered a loss to Bellevue – one of the top teams in KingCo.

Last year’s Valley Division consisted of Liberty, Sammamish, Interlake, Mount Si and Cedarcrest. The Sky Division had Newport, Bellevue, Skyline, Mercer Island and Issaquah.

Now, Issaquah and Mount Si have switched divisions. Unfortunately though, all it did was make the Wildcats’ competition tougher, making it more difficult for them to qualify out of their conference and into a state matchup. The top three teams in each division vie against each other in league playoffs for a chance to play in the state meet.

Coach Bruce Caldwell said the Valley Division was considered the easier one to play in last season. The Sky Division has three of the better teams in the KingCo league.

And their team is still young, with 10 of the 17 new to varsity.

“Defensively we’re young. Their all brand new – not a returner among them,” Caldwell said. “Its going to be a matter of them adjusting.”

The Wildcats lost a close one last week, falling to Bellevue Thursday 1-0.

The team plays Newport at 7:30 p.m. at home today.
