The Mount Si Wildcats had a lot on their plate last Friday night, April 27, as they traveled to Interlake to face the Saints. Mount Si coming into the contest hadn’t played a game in nearly a week, was missing three players and was battling an Interlake team on an emotional high with it being the Saints’ senior night.

Once Mount Si got going after a slow start, they played a good game and posted a key 2-0 win over the Saints.

“It was a shutout and that’s what we wanted. That was the first thing we wanted was a shutout and to not give them any opportunities and so, I think we did a good job of that tonight,” said Wildcat coach Darren Brown, who added, “We got what we expected. We came in and we just wanted to get a win out of this and do it cleanly and hopefully without anyone hurt and we’re OK.” Team captain and defender Andrew Talevich praised his team. “Well, tonight’s game, it really proved that we were the better team, not just because we won but because we kept our composure,” Talevich said.

The festivities of senior night for Interlake, along with the rust of not playing in several days, likely contributed to a flat start in the first few minutes for Mount Si, but that all changed in the 15th minute. A foul close to the penalty area allowed the Wildcats an opportunity at a free kick. Mount Si’s best offensive player, Gibson Bardsley, took that free kick and fired it into the net past Interlake goalie Daniel Astudillo for the first goal.

“The goalie just stood on that right side, so I was like ‘why not?’ Let’s get it in that left post. It started out with that defense getting the ball down to me and then I just had to finish it for them,” Bardsley said.
