Both of Mount Si’s representatives at the May 14 Sea-King District girls’ golf tournament did well and as a result, are going to the state tournament.

Katie Somers shot a round of 81 on the par-72 Riverbend course in Kent to finish in a tie for eighth, while Jen Sanford shot an 87 to tie for 20th place. Sanford was thrilled with her performance. “I don’t know, I made it, that’s all I have to say. I played well. I played one of my best rounds ever,” the junior said. The top 22 out of 48 competitors qualified for the state 3A tournament, which will take place this week in the Bellingham area.

Mount Si scored 12.83 points as a team, which was good for ninth place out of the 12 schools overall that participated; fifth out of the eight Kingco schools who were in the event. Somers’ top summer league rival, Issaquah’s Brittany Tallman, won the event firing a round of 72 and beating out Interlake’s Jordan Allyne and Seattle Prep’s Katrina Hegge by one stroke.z
