Kelli “Dewey” Duvall, a 1999 graduate of Mount Si, was honored recently as the Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) player of the year for softball. The honor came as her team, the Jimmie’s of Jamestown College, came in second in the DAC tournament, falling one run short of a three-peat as the league’s best team. Duvall holds all six Jamestown College career hitting marks. She has a .427 lifetime batting average, accumulated 243 hits, 45 doubles, 20 triples, 21 homeruns and 163 RBIs in her four years at the school. She also holds four single-season records with 86 hits, 66 runs, seven triples and 13 homers.

She was also selected to the 2003 all-conference team along with four other players from her team.

Despite all the glory her softball career has bestowed upon her, Duvall’s roots are firmly in the ground and her heart still has a strong attachment to Snoqualmie Valley. Duvall is looking beyond her December graduation and is ready to pursue other opportunities now that her collegiate career is finished.

“My ideal job would be to coach a successful college team somewhere,” said Duvall, making sure to emphasize successful again after the remark. Duvall plans to stay in Jamestown through next season and assist in coaching duties for the softball team.

Playing third base and having the success bestowed upon her hasn’t come without some hard work.

“During the season I have 2 1/2 hour practices, head to the weight room and work in the batting cage for a total of about five hours daily,” said Duvall. “In the offseason, [it’s] a little less time, but [I’m] still in the batting cage, working on defensive drills and agility drills and also lifting in the weight room.”
