Mount Si Girls, Boys basketball advance to state tournament

Boys continue string of state appearances, girls make tournament for first time in 26 years

Both the Mount Si boys and girls basketball teams are headed to the state tournament.

In a win-or-go-home match-up on Feb. 16, The Mount Si Girls Basketball team prevailed over Lake Stevens, 41-35, taking third-place in the KingCo/WesCo District tournament and securing a spot in the state tournament. It is the first state appearance for the Wildcats since 1997.

The boys team meanwhile continued its winning ways, beating Issaquah 56-40 in the championship of the KingCo/WesCo District tournament on Feb. 17. They find themselves in familiar territory, having been to the state finals in each of the last three seasons.

Both teams will play in the opening round of the state tournament this weekend.

The girls face another do-or-die match-up, playing Bellarmine Prep at Tacoma Community College on Feb. 25 at 12 p.m. The boys will play Tahoma at Lake Washington High School on Feb. 24 at 8 p.m.
