Mount Si football loses close game to Spanaway Lake

The Spanaway Lake Sentinels took a 17-14 nail-biter win over the Mount Si Wildcats in a non-conference Thursday night football matchup Sept. 8.

With the loss, the Wildcats fell to a 1-1 record on the season as they begin conference play. The Wildcats will play on the road against the 2-0 North Creek Jaguars (Bothell) on Sept. 16.

After a scoreless first quarter, Spanaway Lake got on the board with a touchdown, but missed an extra point to make it 6-0.

The Wildcats responded later in the second quarter running a reverse handoff from 12 yards out, that senior wide receiver Liam Christensen took it in for the score to take the lead, 7-6.

Later in the second quarter, the Cats took a 14-6 lead as junior running back Beau Phillips took a handoff from five yards out and broke to the outside, diving toward the left pylon.

The Sentinels notched the game at 14-14 with a touchdown and 2-point conversion in the middle of the third quarter.

With less than 2 minutes to play in the third, the Sentinels kicked a field goal to take the game.
