The Mount Si High School baseball program recently announced its postseason honors for the 2008 season.

Earning league honorable mention were six players: seniors Jake Handy and Blake Hepner, sophomores Frank Tassara, Danny Cavanaugh and Taylor Campbell, and freshman Tim Proudfoot.

In team awards announced at the program’s end-of-year banquet, Hepner won the coach’s award, Campbell won the “Silver Slugger” honor for his offensive efforts this season, and Proudfoot won the “Gold Glove” for his defensive performance in 2008.

Senior Ian Brown also received the “Most Inspirational” award for his leadership in the dugout this season.

Hepner also got to play in the Kingco senior feeder games recently at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue.

Mount Si finished 7-9 in league, 8-10 overall this spring, their first under head coach Chaz Carr. With the improvement shown by this year’s team as the season went along, combined with strong turnouts and a potentially weaker league next year with the loss of three strong baseball schools in Newport, Issaquah and Skyline, the Wildcats may be in position to make it back to the postseason.
