The Mount Si football team received a large number of postseason awards from the Kingco 2A/3A conference as a result of their solid 6-5 season.

Leading the players with multiple awards was Sean Snead, who won the conference’s Offensive Player of the Year award, and also took first team for running back and honorable mention for linebacker. Alex Hiebert also received a lot of recognition, sharing the conference’s Lineman of the Year award with teammate Michael Nelson, in addition to picking up first team awards at tight end and inside linebacker.

Nelson also won a pair of first team awards on top of his lineman of the year award; he won those at both offensive and defensive tackle.

“It’s awesome,” Nelson said.

Tyson Riley won a pair of awards; he made the first team list at safety, and won a second team award at quarterback. Ryan Ransavage won a first team award at guard and a second team honor at defensive lineman, and Aaron Moetului rounded out the list of players with multiple awards; he won second team at center, and was an honorable mention at defensive tackle.

Ransavage was thrilled with his first team selection.

“It’s pretty cool, actually, because I didn’t think I was going to do it this year, especially since I had some injuries,” Ransavaghdon Smith (second team outside linebacker), Matt Bankston (2nd team cornerback), Rossco Castagno (second team wide receiver), Zach Brevick (honorable mention offensive tackle) and assistant coach Chris Jackson (co-Kingco assistant coach of the year) also took home league honors.

Big soccer award

Mount Si senior soccer star Nikki Stanton was announced last week as one of 10 members of the Seattle Times’ “Star Times” all-region girls soccer team, composed of all 2A, 3A and 4A schools from the Seattle area. This is the first time, according to Wildcat coach Darren Brown, that a Mount Si girls’ soccer player has won one of these coveted spots. This selection, Brown said, puts her in nomination for the all-state team as well, so there is a real good possibility that the future Fairfield, Conn., player could get more accolades down the road.

Stanton was to be honored this week at a luncheon for all the award recipients.

Stanton’s athletic career is not yet done at Mount Si; she is on the gymnastics team this winter, so fans can get one last chance to see her compete during the upcoming gymnastics season.
