Hawks fall in ‘Battle of the birds’

It was certainly a battle of the birds last week at Mount Si High School as Chief Kanim battled Snoqualmie Middle School. The Hawks took the kickoff and marched down the field, finishing the drive with a 31-yard Ryan Herman field goal. The Eagles responded later in the half with a touchdown after a Chief Kanim fumble. The extra point was no good and the halftime score was 6-3.

In the second half, Snoqualmie again got on the board with a touchdown after a Hawk turnover. With the score 12-3, Chief Kanim marched down the field and Ian Ilgenfritz hit Ryan Herman with a 21-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was no good and the Hawks were close at 12-9.

Ryan Herman intercepted a pass late in the fourth quarter and the Hawks started a drive. With time running out, Ilgenfritz just missed Matt Bankston down the sideline, a pass that could have sealed the game for the Hawks. Time ran out with the score at 12-9. Ilgenfritz and Korbin Paulson led the defense in tackles. Matt Bankston rushed for 66 tough yards on 16 carries. This was a great season as the Hawks finished at 5-1.
