A look at local Middle School Sports

The Chief Kanim Middle School seventh-grade varsity boys’ basketball team traveled to Issaquah recently, where they notched a 44-34 win. The Hawks got out of the gate early with a 17-2 lead. They used an aggressive, full-court press and took control of the boards early to take control of the game. Coach Chris Blake was impressed with the Hawks’ intensity to open the game. Leading the effort for the Hawks was Joey Evans who scored 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds and provided seven assists. Tyson Riley followed with 10 points and five assists. Alex Hiebert had eight points, Brigan Johnson had five points, Zach Brevick had four points, Mike Nelson had two rebounds, Jordan Hope had one steal, Zach Lindor had two rebounds and Zach Kirchmeyer played solid defense.

Chief Kanim blasts Tolt boys

The Chief Kanim seventh-grade boys’ varsity basketball team hosted the Tolt Mustangs recently and won 53-16. The Hawks used an aggressive defense and owned the boards in gaining their first victory of the season. Tyson Riley led the effort offensively with 12 points, followed by Joey Evans with 10, Chad Billings with eight, Zach Lindor with eight, Zach Brevik with four, Spencer Macewan with four, Brian Johnson with four, Mike Nelson with two and Alex Heibert with one. Defensively Heibert added two assists, Johnson had two steals and both Jordan Hope and Zach Kirchmeyer played a strong press.


Hawks fall to Beaver Lake

Despite a halftime lead the Chief Kanim Hawks’ seventh-grade varsity basketball team fell to the Bulldogs last week, 32-40. The Hawks started slowly in the third quarter, but managed to stay within striking distance of Beaver Lake. However, in the end the Bulldogs nailed their free-throws and put an end to the Hawks’ comeback. Joey Evans led the effort with 15 points and six rebounds, followed by Spencer Macewan with four points and seven steals.

Other offensive contributors were Chad Billings with four points, and Alex Heibert with two.
