Eagle runners do well

The Snoqualmie Middle School (SMS) Eagles have completed two more weeks of cross country. The SMS squad traveled to Chief Kanim Middle School Oct. 5 to take on the Hawks. The seventh- and eighth-grade girls and seventh- and eighth-grade boys won their meets. The sixth-grade girls’ team lost by one point. The sixth-grade boys gave it a great effort, but came up short.

Dane Aldrich took first for the seventh- and eighth-grade boys’ team. Dillon Oord placed second, Nick Hahn fourth, Carter Williamson fifth, Eythan Frost sixth, Alex Anderson seventh, Landon Storrud eighth, Justin Pinkston ninth and Kyle Seymour 10th.

Dannah Parsons came in first for the seventh- and eighth-grade girls. Ashley Cowan came in third, Morgan Seymour fourth, Landon Edwards seventh, Katie Jensen eighth and Jessica Kennedy ninth. Christina Volken came in first for the sixth-grade girls followed closely by Miranda Rawlings at second place. Sabrina Frost came in seventh, Christine Stapleton eighth and Courtney Cowan at 10th place. Trevor Conrad came in eighth place for the sixth-grade boys.

The Eagles then hosted Maywood Middle School at Centennial Field in Snoqualmie. It was a beautiful day to run and everyone gave the race their best effort. All four teams came up short in points but there were many personal bests and great finishes.

Dannah Parsons came in third for the seventh- and eighth-grade girls’ team. Ashley Cowan came in seventh. Dillon Oord finished sixth for the seventh- and eighth-grade boys with Dane Aldrich taking seventh place. Christina Volken took first for the sixth-grade girls with Miranda Rawlings placing second. Sabrina Frost came in seventh and Christine Stapleton placed eighth. Trevor Conrad took third place for the sixth-grade boys. Ramsey Bland came in fourth, Jacob Wright sixth and Van Magnun 10th. The league finals are Oct. 26 at Sammamish State Park starting at 3 p.m.

Hawks take on Eagles

Chief Kanim Middle School hosted a cross country meet last week against Valley rival Snoqualmie Middle School. The sixth-grade boys ran first. Of the first 11 finishers, nine were from Chief Kanim. In first place was Alex Censullo, closely followed by Devon Sharps, Sam Calvert and Dane Raymond. Next came Cameron VanWinkle, Josh Hamann, Connor Perry, Jeremy Knight and Torin Weatherbee. Finishing off the Chief Kanim runners were Methus Weldon, Nate Whited, Will Dodward, Caleb Brothers and Christian Brintnall.

In the sixth-grade girls’ race, Cassie Harvey came in second followed by Brianna Hilton, then Lexi Johnson. The next group of Chief Kanim athletes to cross the finish line included Tara Hauser, Jessica Lovell, Celia Green, Logan Mahoney, Emily Whitford, Shannon Fischer, Katie Black and Ashley Jackson. Not far behind these girls were Gabby Larson, Lydia Lofgren, Daniele Curley and Molly Boord.

In the seventh- and eighth-grade boys’ race, Stephen Hannah led the Hawks coming in at second. The next Chief Kanim runner was Brian Gunn, followed by Brandon McComb and Joe Hays.

In the last race the Chief Kanim seventh- and eighth-grade girls placed second, third and fourth led by Kaylee Galloway, then Kendall Maddox and Krista Galloway. The next Chief Kanim runners were Lisa Eytel and Tracy Piekarczyk.

The Chief Kanim athletes knew this 3-kilometer course would be more challenging than their home course because of the big hill that came at the end the run. They pushed themselves with remarkable results. All 37 athletes earned personal records. Of these, more than half took more than a minute off their previous race times.
