Middle School Sports

A look at sports at Chief Kanim and Snoqualmie Middle Schools.

Hawks defeat Tolt

The Chief Kanim Middle School seventh-grade football team defeated a tough Tolt team recently 26-14.

The Hawks started off slowly but took control in the second half of the game. Chief Kanim got on the board early when Ian Ilgenfritz hooked up with Matt Bankston for a 60-yard touchdown pass. Joe Farmer then scored on a 10-yard run and Bankston added the extra point on a pass from Ilgenfritz. Justin Bridges then scored on a 10-yard run and added the extra point. Bankston led the effort with six rushes for 118 yards, three receptions for 70 yards and a touchdown and extra point. Ilgenfritz threw seven passes for 160 yards, including a touchdown, added two tackles and picked off one pass. Bridges had two rushes, one touchdown and seven tackles. Farmer added six rushes for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Ryan Hermand had three receptions for 80 yards.

Chief Kanim shuts down Hudtloft

Last Monday, the Chief Kanim Middle School varsity football team traveled to Hudtloft Middle School in Tacoma and walked away with a 24-0 win.

The Hawks got off to a good start by winning the coin toss and electing to take the ball. They immediately marched down the field, running the ball effectively. Tanner Riley scored a touchdown on a 30-yard run around left end. Later in the half, Riley scored again on a 40-yard punt return. Just before halftime, Riley hit Frankie Tassara on a 50-yard pass for another Chief Kanim touchdown and the score was 18-0.

In the second half, Vince Vasquez also got into the act with several nice runs up the middle, including one 10-yard run for a touchdown. The offense complemented the stingy Hawk defense that shut out a talented and shocked Hudtloft team 24-0.

The Hawk line blocked very well. Chief Kanim is now running on all cylinders, riding a three-game winning streak with a record of 3-2. Standout players were Brad Reaves with two powerful runs, along with Chris Hindmarch, Royce Clark, Drew Handy, Lucas Zupan, Aaron Moetului and Mike Hall. The Hawk’s last game is against Snoqualmie Middle School at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at the Mount Si High School stadium.

Seventh-grade Hawks fall to Eagles

The Chief Kanim Middle School Hawks seventh-grade football team lost a hard fought battle to a tough Snoqualmie Middle School Eagles team, 12-19. The game went back and forth all the way until the end, but the Hawks just couldn’t put that final touchdown on the scoreboard. Coaches Chris Blake and Tony Schlotfeldt were extremely proud of the teams’ effort and the Hawks finished with a 3-3 record.

Hawk stars include Matt Bankston, who had 17 carries for 171 yards and two touchdowns; Ian Illgenfritz, who passed for 50 yards and made 15 tackles, Korbin Paulson with nine tackles; and Justin Bridges and Jimmy Owens both with six tackles each.
