Eagles win in overtime

The Snoqualmie Middle School varsity boys’

basketball team opened its season on a winning note Thursday as it

came from behind to earn a hard-fought victory against Tolt

Middle School 36-34.

The Eagles found it difficult to score from the outside in

the first half against the stingy Tolt defense. However, with

Zach Elmore clicking on all cylinders in the second half and

Derek Donah and Adam Rothgeb providing the sparks, the Eagles

began to rev back into contention.

With Donah cutting through Tolt’s defense and dishing out

assists, along with Rothgeb nabbing steals and Elmore sweeping

the boards, the game headed toward overtime.

The fans were on their feet and time was running out in

regulation, but Elmore pulled up for the three-pointer and hit nothing

but net as time expired to send the game into overtime. Elmore

led all scorers with 19 points, and Donah added nine. Rothgeb

followed with six, and Kyle Dalman contributed a timely two to

round out the final scoring.

SMS falls to Tolt 54-24

The Snoqualmie Middle School’s eighth-grade

junior-varsity basketball team suffered a loss to Tolt Middle School

last Thursday, 54-24. Coach Brad Hillard said the team had

an added challenge in their first game of the season because only

six eighth-graders played. Hillard said that despite the loss, the

team should improve throughout the season.
