SMS tracksters score big

The Snoqualmie Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade girl’s track teams were victorious last week over Issaquah Middle School. In their first meet of the season hosted at Mount Si High School, the eighth-grade girls bested Issaquah 60-47, while the seventh grade pulled out a close finish of 53-50.

Highlights of the eighth-grade meet were the great performances by Jeannie Frantz and Whitney Chelgren. Frantz anchored the medley relay team, running the 400, and making up a gap of 30 meters to win first place for the team.

Chelgren had three first-place finishes in the meet. One was in the 200, one was in the high jump with an effort of 4 feet, 8 inches, and one was for throwing the shot – her first time ever – 24 feet, 10 inches.

Joan Krona earned a first-place finish in the discus, Kelsey Meyers finished first in the 400 and Meghan Dunklee was first in the hurdles.

Taking seconds were: Frantz in the 100, Vanessa Scalzo in the 800, Shannon Kelley in the 1,600 and Marissa Stewart in the discus. Thirds came from Natsumi Asanuma in the 400, Rebecca Coffey in the 800, Dunklee in the 200 and the long jump, and Stewart in the shot put.

In the seventh-grade meet, Jessica Marley finished first in both the 100 and 200, Jordan Tipton first in the long jump, Chelsea Eddings first in the hurdles and Allyson Rosman first in the discus. Second-place finishers were: Tova Garhart, running a personal best in the 1,600 with 6:23.5, Tipton in the 100 and 200 and Rosman in the shot. Thirds came from Collette Hatch in the 400 and Linnie McElroy in the long jump.

Issaquah tops Snoqualmie


On April 26, the Snoqualmie Middle School boys’ track team lost to Issaquah.

For the eighth-grade team, Brandon Sales took first place in the discus and 200-meter and second place in the 100-meter. Tom Peterson won the 800-meter and the mile, and Alex Rasmussen took second in the 800-meter and third in the long jump.

Colin Parsons placed second in the mile. In the shot put, Rob Jepson placed second, and Dan Meador and Peter Olson placed second and third in the discus, respectively. Jepson was also third in the 400-meter race.

The seventh-grade boys’ team also lost to Issaquah but were still able to turn in some stellar performances, with only five athletes competing. Cameron Rogers won the long jump and was third in the 400-meter race. Zach Carlson won the discus and placed third in the shot, and Taylor Wise placed third in the long jump. Robert Dickson was third in the discus, and Brad Knowles placed third in the 200-meter race.

Pine Lake defeats Tolt


Tolt Middle School lost to Pine Lake in boys’ track April 26 by a score of 97-8 for the eighth-graders and 96-8 for the seventh-graders.

In the eight grade, Cody Hudson turned in a first-place win in the discus with a throw of 99 feet, 3 inches. He also placed third in the shot put with a throw of 37 feet, 3 inches. Troy Costello placed third in the 100-meter run, finishing in 13 seconds, and Mitchell Luce placed third in the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 6 inches.

The seventh-graders turned in one first-place finish by Cody Chappell in the long jump with a jump of 13 feet, 5 inches, and a second-place finish, also by Chappell, in the mile with a time of 5 minutes, 51 seconds.

Tolt girls lose to PLMS


Tolt Middle School’s girls’ eighth- and seventh-grade track teams both lost to Pine Lake April 26 by scores of 79-25 and 94-11.

The eighth-graders turned in several top-three finishes. Diane McKenney won the mile in 6:42, Kelsi Coltom placed first in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:57, and Betsy Westermann won the discus with a throw of 66 feet, 1 inch.

Shantel Rassmussen, Kathy Taylor, Erin Green and Sydney Ware placed second in the 400-meter relay with a time of 1:02, and Kim Drew ran the 800-meter in 2:57, good enough for second place.

Other second-place finishers were Westermann in the shot put with a throw of 30 feet, and Emily Hendrickson, Kim Hunter, Jillian Wolf and Ashliegh Hellard in the 800-meter relay with a time of 2:24. Patience Anderson placed third in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:23, and Ware ran the 75-meter hurdles in a time of 14.3 seconds for third place. Drew jumped 12 feet, 5 inches in the long jump and took third place.

Kenya Marshall of the seventh-grade girls’ team was Tolt’s point-scoring heroine of the day, turning in four, second- and third-place finishes against Pine Lake. In the 75-meter hurdles, Marshall placed second with a time of 14.8 seconds. She was third in the 100-meter race with a time of 14.7 seconds, and second in both the long and high jumps. inches in the long jump, and 4 feet, 4 inches in the high jump.

Eagle boysbeat Tolt


The Snoqualmie Middle School boys’ track team beat Tolt Middle School last Wednesday. The eighth-graders won 74-30, the seventh-graders won 50-16, and the sixth-graders won 77-21.

For the eighth-grade, Adam Rothgeb placed first in the 75-meter hurdles, 200-meter run, 400-meter relay, and was second in the high jump. Alex Grazda placed first in the high jump, second in the hurdles and third in the discus.

Tom Peterson placed first in the 1,600-meter race and second in the 800-meter. Colin Parsons was second in the 1,600-meter and 400-meter, and Brandon Sales placed first in the 100-meter. Sales also took second place in the 200-meter and the discus. Rob Jepson placed third in the 400-meter run, and Alex Rasmussen ran past the 800-meter field for a first-place finish. Rasmussen also placed second in the long jump.

Evan Lloyd was third in the 800-meter, and Chris Krona and Peter Olson each placed third in the shot and long jump, respectively. Jason King, Trevor Louviere, Lloyd and Rasmussen placed first in the medley relay. Rothgeb, Grazda, Sales and King captured a first-place finish in the 400-meter relay, and Parsons, Rasmussen, Lloyd and King also placed first in the 800-meter relay.

The seventh-graders also posted many wins. Zach Lamb won the hurdles, 100-meter and the long jump, and Taylor Wise took first in the 800-meter run. Dan Dombrowski placed first in the shot, and Zach Carlson notched first in the discus. Lamb was second in the 200-meter run, and Brad Knowles was second in the 400-meter.

Cameron Rodgers placed second in the 100-meter run, third in the 400-meter and took second in the hurdles. Knowles was third in the 100 and 200. Carlson threw the shot and placed second, and Robert Dickson placed third in both the shot and discus.

The sixth-graders won most of the events, with Nick Schwarzmiller capturing first place in both the mile and long jump, and he was also part of the medley relay team of Jace Derwin, Cody Riches and Marcus Holstine that placed first. The 800-meter relay team consisting of Bruce Louviere, Derwin, Justice Manson and Grayson Linklater also placed first.

For Tolt, Brad Pillo placed second in the 400-meter and 800-meter runs, and Price was third in the 400-meter. Manson won the 200-meter, while John Person took third. Price took first place in the hurdles and second in the high jump. Louviere was first in the discus, and second in the two-mile, and Person placed second in the long jump, and third in the 100-meter and 200-meter runs. Holstine won the 800-meter run.

Cody Hudson won the discus, throwing 106 feet, tossed the shot 37 feet, 1 inch, and jumped 14 feet, 5 inches in the long jump. Mitchell Dietz won the 400-meter race in 1 minute, 2 seconds. Troy Costello placed second in the 100-meter race in a time of 13.2 seconds, and Mitchell Luce threw the shot 32 feet, 9 inches for second place.

Dietz placed third in the 75-meter hurdles with a time of 13.4 seconds, and also took third place in the 200-meter run with a time of 29.7 seconds. Aaron Gascoigne ran the 100-meter race in 13.3 seconds, taking third place, and jumped 4 feet, 6 inches in the high jump, again placing third.
