Hawks finish

season

The Chief Kanim Middle School eighth-grade girls’ soccer team finished a brilliant season with three wins, two ties and a loss. The girls endured eight weeks of fantastic development, not only as a team but as individuals.

“I couldn’t be more proud of their continued focus up to and through the team’s last game,” said coach Camille Baumgardt. The Hawks’ final game of the season was by far their paramount, with players building up their individual and team play. They were using both feet, stepping in front of opponents’ passes, and directing one another on and off the ball throughout the game.

Forward Rory Newcomb was a force to be reckoned with this year. She scored in all six games, ending the season with nine of the team’s 17 goals. She was followed by Lena Wooldrige with four goals.

The hard-working middle was led by the amazing calm of Kendra Lee, the team’s centermid fielder. She stepped in and got the ball, then slotted it by the other team to the feet and space of the Hawks’ other players.

Standout defenders were sweeper Lynell Solene, Lauren Williamson, Jacy Shreve, Jackie Carlson and Jenny Green. Goalkeeper Alexis Hoydal was a brick wall, allowing only 10 goals in the net. She made many saves, including a magnificent penalty kick save. Stepping in for her on injuries were Aliana Morris and Ashley Borgstrom.

The team voted to give Allie Hawes the most inspirational player award. Hawes gave 110 percent at all practices and games. She not only bettered herself, but challenged her teammates to do the same. She played every spot on the field except goalie (which she would have covered if needed) with great determination and poise.
