The Mount Si High School gymnastics team finished up the regular season last week, and now looks to make history in the postseason.

The Wildcats opened last week with another win, this one in a meet with Eastlake and Liberty last Monday, Jan. 26, at Mount Si High School. The Wildcats scored 158.1 over the Patriots’ 139.15 and Wolves’ 129.75.

Georgia Reynolds took the all-around title, but it was close. The junior led a Mount Si sweep of the top four slots, scoring a 34.0. Kennedy Richmond (33.8) was second, followed by Rachel Karavias (32.4) and Brittany Cragin (30.35). Lexi Swanson had a solid showing, finishing tenth overall (24.6).

“I just go out there, try and do my best and have fun with it and cheer on all the other teams and my team,” Swanson said.

Reynolds (9.0) and Richmond (8.6) took the top two places in the vault event, while there was a top-five sweep by the Wildcats in the bars, with Reynolds (9.0), Richmond (7.0), Karavias (6.8), Cragin (6.1) and Swanson (5.8) making up that group.

On beam, Mount Si struggled a bit, with falls by both Cragin and Karavias in their routines. Despite that and a surprisingly low score of 7.2 for Reynolds, those three and Richmond all still finished in the top seven of the event.

The floor produced a top-five sweep for the Wildcats, with Richmond (9.2), Karavias (8.9), Reynolds (8.8), Cragin (8.65) and McKinna Little (8.25) making up that group. Little’s routine was sharp, with a strong tumbling sequence early in the routine which likely helped her score significantly. Look for Little to become a bigger factor in this event for the Wildcats as postseason approaches.

The Little factor was certainly evident on Thursday, Jan. 29, as she recorded a season high of 8.9 on the floor, helping the Wildcats to another school record for high team score of 162.65, beating out Redmond’s score of 133.25 at a meet held at Interlake High School in Bellevue.

Reynolds won the all around with a score of 37.0. Richmond (9.6) won the floor exercise, while Reynolds (9.05) led the Wildcats on the beam with a second place finish. The junior’s 9.65 blasted the field in the bars, while her 8.8 was good enough for second on the vault.

Little’s season high was one of several by Wildcat gymnasts; the previously mentioned scores by Richmond on floor and Reynolds on bars were also season bests, along with a 9.0 on beam by Cragin and a 9.5 on floor by Reynolds.

Mount Si heads into postseason Saturday, Feb. 7, as they meet the best of Kingco 3A for the league meet at Ballard High School. Based on how the Wildcats have fared this season, Mount Si looks to be the favorites to win the meet.

“It’s pretty exciting to know that we could possibly be favorites going into league,” Mount Si coach Jessica Easthope said. “Our team goal all year long is to win league. We knew from the very beginning that we were setting our goals pretty high.”

The bars could be the event to watch. Richmond said she and Reynolds are both building up for the event.

“If we get stronger on there, we’re pretty solid,” she said.

Winning the Kingco title — a first in program history — will likely come down to small details.

“Once it gets down to Kingco, it’s going to be about the little tenths,” Easthope said. “We’re going to be working on the bent knees, the legs apart, the little details that make a routine look that much more polished.”

Richmond thinks her team can go far.

“The team can take it to state,” she said. “If we keep competing like we have been, I think we’re doing pretty good.”

“I know that we’re going to be away from Mount Si,” Easthope said. “But I hope [fans] come and continually support our program and watch us, because we’re good.”
