Girls team fights first-game jitters

Mount Si’s varsity softball team may have lacked game experience in its loss to Ingelmoor.

But potential for the future shone through the 12-0 fall to the Vikings.

Inglemoor started scoring early and often, taking advantage of struggles by Mount Si’s starting pitcher, Alex Johnson.

The Vikings scored six runs in the first two innings to take control, then maintained that lead the rest of the way, scoring four in the seventh to close things out.

Despite the loss, Wildcat coach Larry White thinks this team has potential.

“We’re going to be fine. They got some bloops in there that cost us some runs, but I didn’t think we played too poorly,” he said.

“We’re a very athletic team and I like the enthusiasm, the athleticism.” White added.

Positives for the Wildcats included leadership by junior outfielder Savannah Maddux. She made a couple good defensive plays in the field, despite somewhat tough conditions. Maddux was prepared at the plate, going 2-3 with a double.

After three games last weekend in Wenatchee, Mount Si returns home Wednesday, March 25, for a date with a rebuilding Newport squad. Game time is 4 p.m.
