The Mount Si girls’ basketball team had a tough assignment to open the second half of the season last Wednesday night when they played the Issaquah Eagles and their tough defense on the Eagles’ home floor. Issaquah showed why that assignment was difficult, as their defense held Mount Si to just 15 first-half points in a 56-45 victory.

Caitie Richards scored 13 to lead the Wildcats, but 23 turnovers proved to be costly. Mount Si also had a difficult night shooting the ball, as they were only able to hit 28 percent of their attempts from the floor.

The Wildcats played at home last Friday night against a short-handed Sammamish squad. The Totems didn’t have a junior-varsity team, so the varsity game was moved up from its normal 7:30 p.m. start time to 6 p.m. However, while many of the Mount Si and Sammamish supporters got word of the change (including this newspaper), referees apparently didn’t, showing up some 20 minutes after the scheduled start of the contest. As a result, the game didn’t start until a little after 6:30 p.m., and then it was just with two officials; the third didn’t arrive until late in the first half.
