In response to the recent coronavirus outbreak, Eastside schools are taking precautions when it comes to sporting events.

The Lake Washington, Bellevue, Issaquah, Mercer Island and Snoqualmie school districts all have announced that games will be cancelled or postponed.

Northshore School District: In a statement from the Northshore School District on March 5 they said “the District is allowing spring sports to continue with practices and expect to move into competitions starting next week.”

All athletes from Northshore schools traveling to away games will be screened with a thermometer before being allowed to board the bus.

According to the KingCo website, games against other league opponents located in the Lake Washington, Bellevue, Issaquah, Mercer Island and Snoqualmie school districts are postponed.

Lake Washington School District: In an announcement on March 8, the district announced that practices will go on as scheduled, but all athletic competitions will be postponed or cancelled through March 18. “We will re-evaluate the need to continue limiting activities after March 18, 2020. We also know that this guidance may change with additional developments,” its website states.

Bellevue School District: According to a letter to families on March 5, all sporting competitions are cancelled or postponed. Practices will continue, as they are considered an extension of the school day.

Issaquah School District: In a March 5 update, the Issaquah School District announced that practices will continue, but games will be cancelled or postponed.

Mercer Island School District: The district announced in an update on March 6 that all athletic competitions are suspended until March 22. Outdoor athletic practices are set to continue.

Snoqualmie Valley School District: In a letter to families updated on March 6, the district announced that games will be cancelled or postponed. Staff-led practices will continue.

“In collaboration with other school districts, SVSD plans to take a similar approach as our neighbors by suspending events at least through Friday, March 20. As that date approaches, the District will reassess developments and makes decisions about whether to resume activities on March 21 or postpone activities longer. We appreciate the passion our community has for supporting students’ activities, and we hope you can understand why these safety precautions are important,” its website states.
