SNOQUALMIE – Two Mount Si wrestlers endured tough competition at a regional tournament in Sedro Woolley then made their way to Tacoma for the state competition. Pano Dreves, wrestling at 171 pounds, and Trevor Moore, wrestling at 215 pounds, came away from Mat Classic 17 highly placed in their weight classes.

Dreves made it all the way to the championship where he lost a close 5-4 match to Cody Leigheit of Ferndale. In his first match on his way to the championship, he faced Jordan Holley of East Valley Spokane. Dreves defeated Holley 10-8 to set up a match with Miles Kilcup of White River. The match was close but Dreves pulled it out in the end 7-6 to move into the semifinals. There he faced Tim Haukenberry of White River. Dreves, wrestling patiently, held on to win 5-4 for the final showdown in the championship.

Leiffeit had a similar ride to the finals, although he did pin his first-round opponent.

Moore dominated his first opponent, Justin Fortunato from Kennedy. Moore pinned Fortunato 11 seconds into the second round.

In the semifinals the senior Wildcat wrestler lost to Travis McKenzie of Cheney 6-3, sending him to the consolation finals. At his first match there he defeated Paul Smith from Washington by pin at the 4:35 mark of the third round. He then went on to pin Art Weaver of Wapato at the 4:58 mark of the third round to move into the third and fourth-place consolation finals. There he faced his old nemesis, Jesse Johnson of Mercer Island. Johnson edged Moore 3-1 to take third.

It was the best finishes for Mount Si wrestlers in several years with the closest lone wrestler being Matt Haas, who placed third last season.
