Cedarcrest High School runners cap careers at state

Red Wolf runner Cara Strodel made the podium twice at state finals May 26 to 28, placing seventh in the 3,200-meter race and eighth in the 1,600-meter race. The seventh-place showing in the 3,200 on Thursday, May 26, was a season best for her at 11:34.35

Helped by a scratch that allowed her to compete that Saturday, Strodel ran the 1,600-meter race in 5:15.42, just shy of her personal record. This marks her second and third appearances on the podium in track and field; she’s also made it four times in cross country as an individual and twice as a cross country team member, totaling nine visits in her high school career.

“That’s pretty good for a girl that wanted to run the 100 and 200 meter in high school,” coach Bruce McDowell said.

Chad Linnerooth ran a 2:01.96 in the 800 meter preliminaries, finishing 14th. McDowell said the senior wanted to go faster, but has been worn down by illness.

“Despite that, Chad should be proud of all his accomplishments this year,” McDowell said. He broke a school record in the 800.
