Cedarcrest Cross Country has strong showing at Cascade Conference

Some of the top runners ran a little conservative for the first mile but after that picked up the pace. Even with that restriction, almost all of the district returners from last year ran about the same time that they did at last year’s district meet.

The girls ran first and finished first in the team race. They showed good depth with eight girls in the top 11. They were led at the front by Alicia Krivanek, first, Madi Shinn, second, and Lily Krueger, third. Rounding out the scoring five were Kelly Hall, fifth, and Mary Cate Babcock, sixth.

The boys ran second and also finished first overall. Cedarcrest had nine boys in the top 19. They were led at the front by Ian Fay, first, Grant Van Valkenburg, second, and Ben Benson, third. The other scoring runners were Emmett Klaiber, eighth, and Chase Bolin, 10th.

Cedarcrest’s athletes of the meet were Patrick McCabe, Briggs Hansen, Connor Eck, Cecelia Kiesow, Anna Christensen and Anna Parker. All six ran their best races of the season.

The Cedarcrest Cross Country squad also competed at the Sunfair Invite on Saturday, Oct. 1, which is held at Franklin Park in Yakima.

In the non-varsity races, they had nine boys and six girls come away with top-50 ribbons. The top 10 placers in these races were Katelyn Wells, nineth, Gideon Bender, 10th, and Cecelia Kiesow, 10th. For the varsity races, it is seven flights and all seven flights are scored. For these races, the top 15 get medals. They came away with all seven boys and five girls placing in the top 15.

Our Athletes of the Meet were Ian, Alicia, Chase Bolin, Emmett Klaiber and Brady Shaw. All five had outstanding days. Also in the running (see what I did there..) were Kelly Hall, Elsie Dombeck, Alison Swift and Connor Eck.

For the first time in five weeks, Cedarcrest has a Saturday without a Saturday invite. Next Thursday, Oct. 13 they head to King’s for another Cascade meet. Their next big focus is the Cascade Conference Championships on Thursday Oct. 20th. Cedarcrest hosts that meet at the Blue Heron Golf Course in Carnation. Girls race at 4 p.m. and the boys start their race at 4:45 p.m.
