SNOQUALMIE – Heavy clouds, rain and wind did not keep the Mount Si Wildcats baseball team from postponing another game Friday afternoon, but maybe it should have. The ‘Cats were handed a disappointing 13-1 loss against Interlake, who before the game was a half-game back from Mount Si in the KingCo League standings.

Interlake came out hitting in the top of the first inning. Mount Si’s Sean Sattler pitched first and gave up four runs on two hits, one of which was a double. He also walked three people and allowed a stolen base before coach Gary McGregor brought in Dan Flood.

With the bases loaded and no outs, another Interlake runner came home when a ball was hit to third base and the throw home failed to beat the runner from third.

Later in the inning, with two outs and men on first and second and Interlake holding a 5-0 lead, another Saint hit a single to center field. The next pitch was also a single. A runner on third came in to score, and the bases were loaded once again before the Wildcats caught the final out.

The score stood at a dismal 6-0 when the Wildcats went to bat in the bottom of the first. Marc Dahm singled off the Interlake pitcher, then Jeremy Bess hit a single and stole second base. David LaBelle and Matt Poth both struck out.

In the top of the second inning, Flood returned to pitch for the Wildcats. Their luck had not changed, however, as the first pitch Flood threw resulted in a double to the center-field fence. The next batter singled, bringing in a run. Another double hit the left-field fence, which upped the score to 8-0.

McGregor brought in Tyler Osborn to pitch, and an Interlake shot to left field brought in the ninth run. With runners on second and third, and no outs, Osborn loaded the bases by giving up a walk. He also walked the next batter, and the runner on third came in for the 10th run.

The Saints scored another on a ground-out to first. The ‘Cats ended the inning with two successive fly-outs, but the Saints had a 12-0 lead.

The Wildcats toughened up on defense in the top of the third, sending the Saints back to the dugout 1-2-3. But in the bottom of the third, they were unable to get the offense going. Marc Dahm walked before Bess and Mike Dahm struck out. LaBelle hit a single to left field, but Poth struck out to end the inning.

Brent Clarke pitched in the top of the fourth inning, struck out two batters and gave up one run. The score widened to 13-0. In the bottom of the fourth, Clarke hit a one-out double. He eventually scored the only run for Mount Si on a two-out base hit by Scott Johnson.

Mike Dahm pitched the fifth inning and struck out two batters. No more runs were scored and the game was called because of rain. Interlake went home with the 13-1 win.

Even with the loss, the ‘Cats were ahead of Valley rival Cedarcrest, whom they played the next day and beat 9-3. The Wildcats play at 4 p.m. today at home against Sammamish.
