Under a brilliant spring sun last week, the Mount Si boys’ track team defeated the Interlake Saints 88-57. The distance crew led the way, winning 21 of 27 points in the distance events. Joe Taklo won the 800 meter and super freshman Drake daPonte won the 3,200 meter with a personal best of 10 minutes, 45 seconds. Taklo finished second in the 1,600 meter with daPonte taking third. Teammate Thomas Goble finished third in the 800.

The throwers chipped in as well, winning 24 of a possible 27 points. Erik Tierney had his 2005 debut a memorable one by winning the shot put, discus and finishing second in the javelin. Alex Grazda continued his dual-meet win streak in the javelin while Keith Keller picked up third. Tierney and Cary Purchase finished second and third in the discus to help the ‘Cats sweep of that event. Nick Johnston finished third in the shot.

The sprinters also fared well. Running the 100 for the first time this year, senior Adam Rothgeb triumphed over teammate Brady Barry in a photo finish with Stefan Marth taking in a personal-best run. Barry outleaned teammate Frank McLaughlin to take the 200 meter. Rothgeb also won the 300 hurdles with Marth taking home third.

Dan Floyd and Max Nelson finished second and third, respectively, in the 400 meter.

Coach Keli Lake continues to work her magic with the jumpers. McLaughlin earned a second in the long jump and the ‘Cats swept the triple jump with Sean Bothell winning, Marth taking second and Floyd taking third. Rothgeb and Grazda finished second and third, respectively, in the high jump.

Finally, the 4×400 relay team of Nelson, Taklo, Goble and Kyle Stanton-Wyman gutted out a win to finish the meet in style.
