A Mount Si athletics star has found a college to call home next year.

Senior Ian Atkinson, who starred on both the Wildcat baseball and football teams the past couple of years, has chosen the community college route, signing with Spokane Falls Community College to play baseball for them next season. Atkinson said SFCC beat out several other two-year schools and at least one four-year for his services in 2008.

“I went on a visit there in February and met all the coaches and players, and I worked out with the team and had a good time and spent the night over there, and [it] just seems like a good fit for me. I think I’ll get a chance to play early,” Atkinson said.

Mount Si baseball coach Gary McGregor is proud of Atkinson. “He deserves it. Worked hard for it. Started way back when he was a sophomore. He knew that he wanted to play baseball when he was done with high school, had his mind made up that that’s what he was going to do and worked hard to get there,” McGregor said.
