Who’s in charge?

I am flabbergasted after reading the article regarding the new construction on the Ridge [“Construction gets in gear on Ridge II,” Aug. 22]. Apparently, the developers have approval for up to 1,850 homes, but can increase that to 2,150 homes by buying back two proposed school sites. Are you kidding me? When are we going to hold city planners, district leaders and developers accountable?

We’ve lived here for one year. When the school bond was up for vote last year, we planned to vote “yes,” I quickly realized there has been no new building in North Bend (water moratorium) but significant growth on the Ridge, yet no new schools were built. I voted “no” instead. It should not be the current residents’ responsibility to support greedy developers. Who’s going to buy these homes with no schools anyway?

I hope school district candidate Kathryn Lerner is a fiscally responsible person and is able to ask district leaders tough questions on this matter.

And what is this ridiculousness about a new hospital? Who would agree to pay to move the hospital so it can become bigger? They can expand at their current location or residents can drive a short 13 miles to Issaquah where there are three hospitals and several 24-hour emergency care facilities. I just don’t get it.

I hope our district leaders are ready to hear some uproar, because I am surely to be leading it. Who’s running this show?
