The men of the Mount Si post of Veterans of Foreign Wars may be getting on in years, but the cause they serve is timeless.

Men and women from the local VFW, American Legion and auxiliaries — including the proud members on this week’s front page — still gather to exchange more than just stories. Their role as champions of the United States armed service and its mission goes back a century and continues even after the Memorial Day flags are put away.

The groups welcome new members to help military families, visit injured veterans and push on veterans’ issues.

To see these vets in action, consider joining them on Monday, March 31, as they acknowledge the fallen.

Members of the VFW and American Legion honor Valley patriots at 9 a.m. at the Preston Cemetery; 10 a.m. at the Fall City Cemetery; 11 a.m. at the Mount Si Cemetery in North Bend; and noon at Mount Si High School.

The ceremony is brief, and repeated at each stop, with three rifle volleys honoring those who gave their lives in service to their country. A lunch follows at the Legion Post, 38625 River St., Snoqualmie, following the final ceremony at Mount Si.
