This letter is in response to the letter to the editor about the Bad Ass Coffee Co. I am a 24-year-old stepmother. I was born and raised in the Valley. I think that these “upset” parents who are writing in and complaining about the name of a business should just relax.
I wonder if you are more comfortable with the name “Hooters” and the kind of business that they promote than with a coffee shop with no “ass” in it. Is it more PC to promote the exploitation of women than the name of a donkey? I think that you have bigger things to worry about than a word or a name, such as violence, drugs and sex, to name a few.
As long as you inform your children that this type of language is not acceptable and spend time with them to teach them right from wrong, you should have nothing to worry about. If you think that you are protecting your children from this sort of thing by not talking about it or not letting them see something on a sign, then you are wrong.
Realize that your children probably learn more foul language from their parents, television and friends at school than from reading on a sign. You can only guide your children on the right path; the road that they choose is ultimately up to them, and sheltering them from life’s “improper” situations is not guiding them at all. Lighten up.
