We need to elect Carolyn Simpson to the Snoqualmie Valley School District Board of Directors. For the first time in many years, you actually have a choice between candidates. Carolyn is the best candidate for this position. Carolyn is fully committed to making sure that your voice is heard on the school board. It’s time for a school board that will include the voice of the public and provide proactive leadership and direction.

The most recent statistics available for the Snoqualmie Valley School District show that Mount Si High School is either at the bottom or second from the bottom of the 22 public high schools on the Eastside when it comes to all three measurements of college readiness. If we are at or near the bottom with respect to college-bound students, how well have we done with our students who want to enter the work force after high school?

Where’s the sense of urgency for improving student achievement here in the Snoqualmie Valley? Board meetings should regularly address student achievement, not just once a year when WASL scores come out, but throughout the year. It is time for a change.

Carolyn is passionate about improving academic rigor at our schools. She actually has children who have been in the schools for years and she has volunteered extensively at all grade levels and with all aptitudes. She’s talked with many of you about our schools and she wants a chance to provide leadership and direction with respect to improving academic achievement. It is time for a change.

The school district should be able to project growth and plan accordingly. We shouldn’t have to experience surprise enrollment of 15 percent in excess of projection in any one school or be surprised with 7-percent growth in the district instead of the 1 1/2-percent growth projected just a few months before schools opened. The district is already planning on portables and overcrowding at the newest elementary school within one year. Then what?

Carolyn has 14 years of executive level financial experience. She wants to use realistic planning models so that we can be proactive about facing the growth in our district, not reactive by using portables and busing students right past the closest schools. It is time for a change.

Carolyn has the volunteer and financial experience that a board member needs. But mostly, her passion for the education of our community’s children is what really stands out and makes her the ideal candidate for the district’s board of directors. It is time for a change.
