Some questions still need to be answered

Letter to the Editor.

While reading the voters pamphlet statements for and against Proposition No. 1 and the “Facts about Tollgate” as published by the city of North Bend, I was wondering if some of the statements were factual.

It struck me that an investigative reporter’s article by the Valley Record would be helpful to the voters in determining fact from rhetoric.

Would you please provide factual information on the following:

* As I understand the city publication, the city will buy 50 acres for $5,000,000, but the bond issue is for only $3,560,000. How will the difference between the purchase price and the bond issue be raised?

* Will the purchase of this land “reduce the risk of flooding in North Bend”?

* Is there a government report to support this statement?

* Is it true that “the bond’s cost equals a 35 percent local property tax increase?”

* Is it true that 70 percent of the 50 acres in question will be left in “open spaces by the developer”?

* If that statement is true, are the voters then being asked to pay $5,000,000 for 15 acres of land?
