I attended a Snoqualmie Valley school board meeting tonight in which a “middle-school boundary change proposal” was addressed.

It is my understanding that this will be submitted to the paper (on Feb. 27). With your deadlines and the lack of information in the community, this leaves little room for any comment from the community. The proposal would redraw district boundaries so that all Snoqualmie Ridge students will attend Chief Kanim Middle School effective September 2004.

I consider this to be a very negative change to the city of Snoqualmie, the district and the Snoqualmie Ridge neighborhood. Snoqualmie is a wonderful small town where we are living and learning together. Last May we voted on a bond measure, which resulted in approving the building of a new middle school in North Bend. Why didn’t the voters have this new information about the redrawing of the boundaries? Would any of us have voted differently if we had this dramatic boundary change information? Would we rather have seen some sort of fast-track solution to resolve the overcrowding at SMS?

This is new information to me (only a few hours old) and I still have a lot of questions. I encourage the citizens of Snoqualmie and residents of the school district to go to the Web site (snoqualmie.k12.wa.us) and read the proposal. I also encourage attendance at the public forums.
