Preschool parents take notice

Letter to the Editor

On Feb. 6, 2007, voters of the Snoqualmie Valley School District will vote on a bond to address the increasing number of students enrolled in our schools. Over the next 12 years, enrollment is expected to grow from 5,000 students to between 8,200 to 9,200 students. My son will be one of those future students and it is my hope that he will not attend an elementary school that is overcrowded, with its resources spread too thin among too many children.

This bond will provide a new elementary school, a second high school and immediate relief for current Mount Si High School students. Additionally, this bond will allow the district to acquire needed land, upgrade the transportation facility and provide essential upgrades for existing schools.

We have an opportunity to ensure that our community continues to be a great place for our children to learn. I strongly encourage other preschool parents to join with me to support the schools of our children’s future. There are many opportunities to volunteer listed on the Valley Voters for Education Web site, www.vvfe.org, host or attend a “Let’s Bond” coffee in your home to learn more about why our district needs this bond and of course, register to vote. Today’s toddlers will be tomorrow’s teenagers; we need to make certain they will have the space and the needed resources to learn.
