Parsons should be fire commissioner

Letter to the Editor.

Having recently retired as secretary of King County Fire Protection District 38 for 24 years, I believe I have a unique position to assess the qualifications necessary for the position of fire commissioner.

During my tenure I worked with about 18 different commissioners; most were very dedicated to providing the best possible service to the District. It is a job that most found requires more time and expertise than they thought when they decided to run for the position. There is a lot more involved than just showing up for a meeting once a month.

I wholeheartedly endorse Steve Parsons for the position of commissioner of KCFD 38. I have known Steve for many years and know he is a man of integrity. He has been attending the fire district board meetings for the last four years, so he knows the issues that the district worked on during that time.

In addition to that he has taken the time to study the fire district laws (RCWs) that govern the running of individual fire districts, and has shown diligence in making sure the district follows those laws and regulations. This is a very important point. Steve also has been a professional firefighter for 20 years, so he brings invaluable experience to the administration of the fire district.

I urge all residents of King County Fire District 38 to vote for Steve Parsons for fire commissioner on Nov. 6, 2001.
