Needy turned away for first time

Letter to the Editor.

We are two of several volunteers for the Snoqualmie Valley

Christmas Club, a local organization with almost 50 years of helping needy families

at Christmas time.

In years past, we have collected food and gifts through barrels in

grocery stores and other businesses in Snoqualmie Valley School

District #410. Approximately three years ago, the high school decided to do a

fund-raiser by collecting food and dividing it between local charities. Then

our club would receive about a truckload of food, a greatly reduced amount,

but we managed to survive and still give the families what they needed.

This year, however, the Christmas Club was eliminated from the list

of local charities, without being informed that there would be no food given

to our group. No explanation given.

This is the first year we have had to turn people away.
