More on North Bend’s design standards

Letter to the Editor.

The Valley Record printed our letter in the last week of April

decrying the Design and Standards regulatory book of North Bend. We

received many comments and phone calls agreeing with our views _ with

one exception. It was from the city of North Bend.

The caller stated that the medians weren’t in the plans and there was

no money for them. Now, that pleased us and I replied that as soon as I

received that statement in writing and a letter stating the same to the Record,

we would pick up the signs; to date, I have had no letter.

By the way, I listened in on a workshop (Council and Planning)

and learned that the paint permits and color demands have been abandoned as

(I believe I quote this accurately), “We don’t have the money or the

manpower to enforce it.”

Since I had to leave early, I wasn’t there to hear it verbatim, but I

understand that the proposal to keep merchants from posting signs in their

windows was deep-sixed. Keep up the good work.

Now, as to the roof designs listed in the Design and Standards book _

it is very hard to match the designs requested with the premise that

the downtown buildings are to be reconverted to their original designs.

Maybe I missed something.
