Letter: Cities need to reconsider their plans for growth

To the city representatives of Snoqualmie and North Bend: We have made the front page of the Seattle Times – not because of accomplishments, but because our cities' growth violated King County growth projections.

To the city representatives of Snoqualmie and North Bend: We have made the front page of the Seattle Times – not because of accomplishments, but because our cities’ growth violated King County growth projections.

Our Community Development Director petulantly demands that our cities have the right to develop our communities as “we” see fit.

But I say to you, city representatives, isn’t it time to reevaluate when both the Puget Sound Regional Council (PSRC) and your own constituents have labeled your actions “irresponsible development”?

Furthermore, a small article tucked in our own Snoqualmie Record from June 22 states that the Snoqualmie City Council has to re-designate wetland buffers in the Kimball Creek development in order to develop housing there. While I am all for affordable housing options, when the city councils have to change wetland boundaries, go against PSRC growth restrictions, and are not listening to community voices opposed to more development, something is wrong.

I encourage my fellow community members to speak out about your vision for our Valley’s future. I charge our cities’ councils to listen to their constituents and prescribed growth restrictions and stop their reckless drive to develop our beautiful small towns into another Seattle suburb.
