Leave your stamp on Snoqualmie Days

A look at Snoqualmie life through the eyes of a local.

I know, I know. I have been a bad girl! Despite the ribbings and

admonishments from several people, I have not done my column lately. I tried

using the excuse that my boss keeps me so tied to my desk that I don’t

have time to do my column. But that wasn’t believed by many. I suppose the

real excuse is that I’m spending a lot of time with Brian and Brandon and

attending Brandon’s baseball games.

Snoqualmie Days will be here before we know it and it’s never too

late to help out. Call (425) 888-0021 if you are interested. It’s the volunteers

that keep this event happening from year to year, so come and help. Leave

your stamp on Snoqualmie Days.

I hope Mother’s Day was special for everyone. To me it was a true

delight to be able to spend Moms Day with my most special of moms.

Our family had lunch with her and my grandmother at Tony Roma’s Ribs.

I know several people that aren’t fortunate to still have their mom

around, so I cherish every moment with mine. I do think, however, that we

should treat every day as Moms and Dads Day and try to always let them know

how special they are to us.

On that note, Sparky did not even acknowledge Mothers Day this

year. I tried giving him a list of things he could give me, but he decided that

my present is to pet him while he eats, clean his cat box, cater to his

every need and to be awakened at 4 a.m. to pet and love him. What a rough

life my little orange and white kitty lives!

Corny joke of the week: What kind of cars do cats drive? Cat-illacs.

Gardening time has definitely arrived and one of the best places to

get plants is at the Fall City Greenhouse. I’m a firm believer in buying

locally and they have a really great selection. My tiny little flowerbed is

now planted. Now comes fighting off slugs.

My older sister Judi just turned 50 on May 26. I think it’s appropriate

that her birthday is just before Memorial Day because she is one of the

most memorable people I know. She’s got this great personality and so much

talent that I always say she and my sister Margie took all the talent and left

the youngest of the sisters (me) with none. Happy Birthday to a really great

sister!

What does your favorite flower say about you? If it’s a daisy, you

notice things other people miss; a violet means you are fair, kind and low

key; a sunflower, you’re reliable; a tulip, you thrive on change; a lily means

you are nurturing; and a carnation means tradition is very important to you.

If you have a lightweight vase that tends to tip over, weigh it down by

filling the bottom with a layer of pebbles, coins or marbles.

Corn on the cob is definitely a summer favorite. How about

drizzling the ear of corn with lemon and lime butter? Mix 6 tablespoons

margarine (room temperature), 2 teaspoons lime juice, 1 teaspoon grated lime zest,

1 teaspoon grated lemon zest, 3/4 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon ground

coriander, 1/2 teaspoon sugar and 1/4 teaspoon pepper and pour over the

corn. This makes enough to cover six ears of corn.

It happened this week: The Golden Gate Bridge opened in

1937 and Frank Sinatra made his TV debut on “Star Spangled Review” hosted

by Bob Hope.
