I’m concerned about the “Little League Pledge” that players were asked to recite on opening day at Torguson Park. The pledge begins: “I trust in God. I love my country and will respect its laws.” Is baseball the proper venue for this talk?
Little League need not take a leading stand on matters of theology or patriotism or the often confused mixing of the two.
I appreciate all the work so many do to make baseball possible for our kids. (Thank you Snoqualmie Valley Little League!) I trust in God and try to love my country and respect its laws. But I want baseball to be about baseball: teamwork, sportsmanship, friendships, skillfulness and fun.
