Espresso bar’s name is `bad’

Letter to the Editor.

My family has lived in North Bend for 3 1/2 years and we

have been nothing but happy with the town and everyone in it. There

was never a single thing that we could ever complain about, until now.

The other day my 7-year-old son told me about the sign for

the new espresso bar. I hadn’t seen the sign, but I assumed that what

he had told me must have been a mistake. Then I saw it. I was

outraged! To open a new business in town is wonderful, especially

in that cute little building, but to name it such an

inappropriate name and advertise it so blatantly is disgusting.

I understand that people have rights. But just because they

have the right to name their business anything they choose,

doesn’t mean it is the right thing to do.

I don’t use language like that, and I am teaching my children

the same. “Bad Ass” is not an appropriate name for a business in

a small family town. And to have it up in lights on the main street

in town is wrong. I just wonder what the owners were thinking

when they decided on that name. And did it have to be approved

by someone at City Hall? If so, what were they thinking?

As for me and my family, we will definitely not patronize

that business. I hope that other families will take the same action

and send a message to merchants that we want our nice, family town

to stay that way.
